First Meeting of Spring 4/13/12

Hey Gamers,
There was a ton of information discussed at our first meeting of the quarter, so i will try and put as much of what i wrote down as i can.
First off, Naiche pointed out that it would be a good idea to interact with the other clubs to create a larger network and to eventually collaborate together and just make art.
We also need to establish ourselves as a club and promote ourselves better throughout the so, so at the end of the quarter, during the reel thing, Julie wants us to hold some kind of tournament.
As of the moment we have no ideas about what we are doing with it. If you have any don't be afraid to speak up.
We also want to make a great push for programming in the club.
This way we will be more well-rounded as game designers and can communicate better throughout the different fields of gaming.
I myself have taken the opportunity to post various resources to our blogspot page, so check it out.
Naiche also had a great idea to create guild houses inside the Gamer's Guild itself.
He wanted to divide it up into different sects according to our various skills.
This way we can help each other out with various different things.
We can create an even better networking system and even trade skills with each other if we need help with our school projects.
There will also be a tournament week five.
The game of choice will be a fighting game that is to be determined on our Facebook group.
So if you havnt voted yet, please do. Time is running out.
The main focus of our last meeting was about the various ways we can network and make ourselves heard out in the gaming community.
Two of our members, Vincent and Devin, recently went to PAX East and decided to share their experience with us.
They talked about all the people they met, the great times they had, and, they acquired some beta keys for the new game, Neverwinter.
They even had some exciting news for the entire guild.
They spoke to one of the lead developers for a new game called Novus Aerterno and managed to make us the main focus group for their testing.
That means that we will be the official Q&A team for their game and we can use that information for our resumes.
Devin still has to contact the lead developer and will update us on the progress of the testing.
They also explained what a great way PAX is to network yourself with all of the big game companies since all of them attend the convention.
At the end of the meeting Naiche went on about the main focus he wants the guild to have.
He said that he wants this to be a place to get to push ourselves out into the gaming field and that we should make ourselves noticed by continuously working on our skills  so that we can promote ourselves further.
We even had a great turnout this meeting with a total of nineteen people.
Also, if you havnt joined our Facebook group, please do.
If you can't find it, it is called AIC Gamers Guild, or you can friend one of the officers and join that way.

Programming for Flash

Hey gamers,
i know a lot of you wanted to start learning how program certain things, so I started looking around for different resources for using the Actionscript language (which is basically just Flash).
So here they are:
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/flash_as3_programming.pdf
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ActionScript/3.0_ProgrammingAS3/flash_as3_programming.pdf
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/actionscript/articles/oop_as3.html
http://www.flashdesignerzone.com/actionscript.pdf
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/ActionScript_Programming
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flash/9.0/main/flash_as3_programming.pdf
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/progAS_flex3.pdf
Now don't go and try learning it all at once.
Its very complicated and takes time to learn.
Now have fun and don't forget to experiment with it.

Last Meeting of Winter 3/16/2012

Hey Gamers,
This is a bit late but bear with me.
Our Last Meeting was a huge success and a major blast.
Those of you that were there voted on what kind of tournament we wanted to have for next quarter and it seems that a majority of you wanted to try your luck at a fighting game and so your request will be received.
Also, our Treasurer, Derek, mentioned that there was a possibility of us gamers to take an official tour of the Idle Minds game studio.
It was also mentioned that if anyone was interested in created a large building, that the Denver Siggraph chapter is constructing a full scale city in 3D that will be available to all students over the network drive.
There will also be a booth set up tomorrow for all of the school's clubs.
So come on by and say hello to us and get to know the other clubs at our school.
Finally, all of us sat down and played some much needed table top games.
We sat down in two groups of ten and battled it out in a game of good vs. evil.
We each had a victor from both the good and the evil side.
Afterwards we all discussed the importance of table top games and their relevance in how they allow us as game designers to evaluate the core concepts in a game and give us a chance to break it down and change any thing we don't see fit.
And for those of you that stayed after the meeting, we had a wonderful time with role playing in an actual D&D encounter.
SO, have fun gamers and i hope all of you come and join us for our next meeting.
